DULUTH, Minn. - The St. Scholastica women's team opened up their spring season with a border battle against Wisconsin-Superior on Friday evening at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center. The Saints would be able to sweep the Jackets' in all matches winning 9-0.
Doubles
The No. 1 pairing of
Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) and
Anna Ritchie (Becker, Minn./Becker HS) took care of their opponents 8-5, while the second team of
Mishell Benitez (Ambato, Ecuador/Colegio Tecnico Particular a Distancia José MartÃ) and
Martina Garcia (Cuenca, Ecuador/Catalinas HS (Eastern Florida State College)) dominated their matching winning 7-2.
Taylor Vyskocil (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS) and
Chloe Hasbargen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS), would see their match go into a tiebreaker, the duo would win that 7-5, and take the match 8-7.
Singles
Maier and Garcia both won their matches 6-2, 6-1. Benitez would take care of business in the third spot, winning 6-4,6-3. Transfer
Maria Sosa (Mazatenango, Guatemala) would appear in the No. 4 spot, she would get the 6-0, 6-2 victory.Â
Katia Bartles would be in the No. 5 position, she would take the first set 6-3, and her opponent would grab the second set, but Bartles would end things with 11-9 in the third set.
Anna Ritchie (Becker, Minn./Becker HS) would round out the scores for St. Scholastica, earning a 6-3, 6-3 win to sweep the Yellowjackets.
