Women's Nordic Wraps Up Gitchi Gami Games SuperTour

The St. Scholastica Women's Nordic Ski team competed in their second race of the 24/25 season. The women traveled to Cable, WI, to compete on Saturday, December 14, with the races concluding on Sunday, December 15.  
 

Day One: Classic Sprint 

Top Performers: 

The Saints had a strong showing on day one of the senior classic sprint, with 13 women competing and four athletes finishing in the top 40. Greta Leitheiser (Bend, Ore./Sun Valley Community School) led the team's charge and delivered an impressive performance, finishing 17th overall at 3:42.14. Kelsey Johannes (Anchorage, Alaska/West Anchorage HS) followed with a solid effort, securing 26th place at 3:50.89. Charlotte (Mae) Whitcomb (Holderness, N.H./Holderness School) also crossed the line in 37th with a time of 3:57.65. Right on her heels was Lily Brown (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East (Northern Michigan University)), who clocked in at 3:57.72, earning 38th place, which rounded out a strong collective effort by the Saints. Leitheiser and Johannes delivered strong performances, securing their spots in the quarterfinals. 

The CSS Saints had two skiers make it to the quarterfinals: Greta Leitheiser (Bend, Ore./Sun Valley Community School) and Kelsey Johannes (Anchorage, Alaska/West Anchorage HS). Leitheiser led the Saints with a time of 3:51.18, also placing fourth out of the six participants within her quarter-final group. Johannes placed fifth out of six participants in her group and had a time of 3:51.18. 

The Saints were represented by two skiers in the Junior division, Victoria Myers () and Josephine Kwasny. Myers placed 5th in her quarterfinal group with a time of 4:10.65. Kwasny, with a time of 3:59.74, earned 3rd place in her quarterfinal group and advanced to the semifinals. In the semifinals, Kwasny finished 5th in her group at 4:00.85. These efforts capped off a successful and competitive opening day for the Saints' Nordic team.

Day Two: Individual Start Freestyle 

Top Performers:

Greta Leitheiser (Bend, Ore./Sun Valley Community School) set the tone for the Saints with an impressive performance, finishing 20th overall with a time of 28:13.0. Close behind was Kelsey Johannes (Anchorage, Alaska/West Anchorage HS), who claimed 26th place with a solid time of 28:32.6, further adding to the team's strong showing. Rounding out the trio was Charlotte (Mae) Whitcomb (Holderness, N.H./Holderness School), who crossed the finish line in 30th place with a time of 28:55.3, to keep the Saints well-represented in the standings.

Up Next:

The Saints will hit the road again next weekend, competing in the CXC Cup in Coleraine, Minnesota, on Saturday, December 21, and Sunday, December 22.
