Volleyball Concludes Last Roadtrip of the Season

Northfield, MN.- The College of St. Scholastica Volleyball team took a trip down to Northfield, MN. on Saturday, November 2 to battle against St. Olaf College for the last road trip of the regular season matchup. The Olies were dominant from the start and the Saints were defeated 3-0.

How it Happened

Set One

Set one started with a service ace from Grace Myhre (Aberdeen, S.D./Aberdeen Central HS), giving the Saints an early 1-0 lead. But the Olies were prepared for competition and took the next point.

Lindsey Baribeau (Biwabik, Minn./Mesabi East HS) fueled the Saints' lineup with a kill straight to the floor tying the match at 3-3.

St. Olaf quickly returned every single ball the Saints sent over the end. And after trailing Katlyn Jones (Bloomer, WI/Bloomer HS) stepped up to the plate with another ace for the Saints to close the gap.

The play was fairly even until the midway point of the set, the Saints could profit multiple points off the Olie errors and kept the game close.

Ava Swangstue (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) had the final kill for the Saints but they fell to St. Olaf 15-25.

Set Two

The Saints took an early 4-1 lead with two kills from Jones and a kill from Baribeau.

Jones continued her persistence despite constant pushback, she stayed a threat to the Olies with another kill to increase the lead to four points at 8-4.

The Olies continued to struggle and their errors benefited the Saints greatly as they stayed ahead a majority of the set.

The score hit 14-12 in favor of the Saints, with ongoing kills from Jones.

St. Olaf began climbing the ladder to defeat, bouncing back with five straight points.

Cassidy Lustig (Ashland, WI/Ashland HS) and Baribeau tried to keep the Saints alive and snuck a few kills down the line, but fell short of victory 20-25.

Set Three

Set three was a slow start for the Saints with many errors causing them to fall behind the Olies early on.

The Saints were down by six and knew it was vital to test the Olies. The Blue and Gold put up five straight, with the help of Bryn Zeigler securing two service aces to close the score gap 10-8.

A long streak of the team exchanging points generated an electric environment in the arena. Once the score hit 19-13 off of Swangstue's kill, the Olies ran away with it.

St. Olaf took the win and the set with a score of 25-16 (3-0).
