How It Happened
First Quarter
Tonight's game started slow, with both teams failing to consistently score, while at the same time performing on defense.
Both teams traded turnovers and rebounds in this early battle of attrition in the first.
At the end of the first quarter, the score was tied at 6-6.
Second Quarter
The Saints opened the second quarter with a good layup, followed by a free throw. It did not take long for the Yellowjackets to match what the Saints had already done early on, scoring four points.
After the lead change the game fell into a brief stalemate, with neither team relinquishing their lead, nor maintaining it.
Just as quick as the Saints gained their lead, the Yellowjackets pulled away. While the Saints offense wasn't completely quashed in the quarter, the Yellowjackets were able to find the basket more, rounding out the quarter with a final score of 18-30.
Third Quarter
Opening the third quarter, the Yellowjackets were able to score four unanswered points, the Saints quickly responded with a three pointer from Haus, that was a step in the right direction.
Once again, the Saints offense had much difficulty getting past the Yellowjackets defense. On the other side of the floor, the Saints defense couldn't read the Yellowjackets offense, allowing the opposition to extend their lead.
In a testament to the difficulty of the third quarter, the Saints were only able to score 15 points in the third.
Fourth Quarter
The Saints opened up the quarter with two easy buckets, adding four points to their total.
Lind took a jump shot from inside the arc, and drilled the shot. Following the shot she found herself on the line, drawing a foul from the Yellowjackets defense. She had one free throw following her made jump shot, and easily converted the two-point play into a three-point play.
Haus was next to the free throw line, and easily sank both of her shots, following the free throws, the Saints were down 16.
The final six minutes of the game saw the Saints desperately trying to dig themselves out of the deep hole they found themselves in, unfortunately, the Yellowjackets were able to extend their lead, winning the game with a final score of 50-72.
