Senior Day Success, Saints Take Down Macalester

Duluth, MN. - The St. Scholastica Saints closed out their season at home with a thrilling matchup against Macalester College on November 16. With the home crowd behind them, the Saints sought to end the season strong, delivering a competitive performance in all phases of the game. Ten Graduating senior athletes were celebrated and brought home the win in their last college games. 

First Quarter
The Saints opened strong, with Donald West (St. Paul, Minn./Woodbury HS (Iowa Central)) connecting early with Ricky Weber (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) for a 13-yard gain. West mixed in passes to Simon Randorf (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and a 14-yard scramble before hitting Weber for a 30-yard strike. Nick Schlender's (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) 27-yard rush set up Benjamin Hunter's (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) 11-yard touchdown reception, putting St. Scholastica up 7-0. Macalester quickly responded with a 33-yard touchdown pass to Paxton Boyd, cutting the lead to 7-6. St. Scholastica's drive stalled after penalties, but the defense stood firm to maintain the narrow lead heading into the second quarter.

Second Quarter
Macalester took a 14-7 lead with a one-yard touchdown run from Vasco Sierra, but Schlender's 67-yard run tied the game at 14. The Saints launched a promising two-minute drill, but the drive stalled on fourth down. Macalester missed a field goal as time expired, keeping the score knotted at 14 at halftime.

Third Quarter
Macalester gained momentum with a 14-yard pass from Deijon Feliciano to Gabe Kasper, but the Saints' defense forced a punt. St. Scholastica responded with a 29-yard pass to Benjamin Hunter (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) and a 19-yard run from Schlender, setting up a short touchdown pass from Weber to West for a 20-14 lead. Macalester's Brian Maddox answered with a 90-yard kickoff return touchdown, tying the game. Schlender's 60-yard run set up Jevon Williams' (Willmar, MN/) 13-yard touchdown, and the Saints led 27-20. Macalester cut the lead to one with a 7-yard pass to Maddox, making it 27-26 heading into the fourth.

Fourth Quarter
The Saints opened the quarter with a 54-yard touchdown pass from West to Burgess, extending the lead to 34-26. After a Macalester turnover, Schlender's 7-yard touchdown made it 41-26. Scully led a quick drive, connecting with Kasper for a 23-yard touchdown to pull Macalester within 41-33. After a turnover on downs, Macalester tied the game with a 35-yard touchdown pass and a successful two-point conversion, sending it to overtime.

Overtime 
In overtime, the Saints' defense blocked a 25-yard field goal attempt by Theo Crosby. With the game on the line, Jacob Andrews (Owatonna, Minn./Medford HS) nailed a 43-yard field goal to give St. Scholastica a 44-41 victory. This thrilling win capped off an intense game, showcasing the Saints' resilience and clutch performances on both sides of the ball.
