Volleyballs Falls in Three Close Sets

Box Score Duluth, MN. - The St. Scholastica volleyball team hosted a MIAC matchup against Saint Catherine University on their home court, the Reif Gymnasium. The matchup commenced at 7 p.m. and ended in favor of Saint Catherine, 3-0. 

How it Happened
Set One 
After a slow start for the Saints in set one Ava Swangstue (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) and Katlyn Jones (Bloomer, WI/Bloomer HS) started the fire for the team with a massive block against the St. Kate's outside. Swangstue then went on to have back-to-back kills making it 7-10. 
Cassidy Lustig (Ashland, WI/Ashland HS) stepped up to the plate for the Saints with a massive kill that was followed by a five-point run for the Saints. Lindsey Baribeau (Biwabik, Minn./Mesabi East HS) found her opportunity to score with a destructive middle kill to tie the set 11-11.
After many battles to pull ahead in the game, Mikala Peterson (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) put up a wall of a block to tie the game 17-17 again. The Saints remained within one continuously with Bryn Zeigler holding down the defensive end.
Zeigler remained helpful for the Saints with a service ace at 23-21 putting them ahead in the end of the set. The Saints fell just short of victory, losing 25-23.
Set Two
The Saints profited heavily from St. Kate's errors and came back with a four-point run. Grace Myhre (Aberdeen, S.D./Aberdeen Central HS) not only had a kill but also assisted Peterson, making the score 6-5. 
The Saints were able to stay ahead throughout the set with back-to-back kills from Jones, Baribeau, and Lustig. 
St. Scholastica's defense was completely controlling the back row, ultimately causing St. Catherines' offense to make multiple errors. A block from Baribeau and Peterson allowed the Saints to push ahead and lead 20-18 late in set two. 
After continuing to battle the Saints were again defeated 25-23. 

Set Three
 
A kill from Jones put the Saints on the board with their first earned point of the game. 
After four errors from St. Kates, the Saints were only trailing one point at 6-7. 
The Saints had an unmatched scramble play to continue a long rally and score a point to put them at 9-10. And a block from Baribeau and Jones followed this to tie the game 10-10. 
Baribeau was unstoppable at the net and tied the game again at 13-13 with another solo block in the books. 
Swangstue returned to the court on a hot streak with a kill and block for the Saints to put them into a tie game (18-18). 
The Saints continued to battle for the lead tying the game again at 21-21 with a kill from Jones. 
The St. Scholastica Volleyball team was unable to win the third set and was sent home with a 25-22 loss. They were 0-3 on sets for the night. 

Up Next 
The Saints will head on the road Saturday, November 2 for a game against St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN. This will be an MIAC matchup starting at 6 p.m. and will be the last away game of the season.
