NORTHFIELD, Minn.– The Saint Scholastica Women's Hockey Team traveled to Northfeild Minn this afternoon to play the Oles of Saint Olaf College. The Saints would secure their third consecutive win, in three consecutive conference games. The Saints would beat the Oles 2-1.Â
What Happened
The first period was not packed with goals, instead it was packed with great hockey from both teams. Both offenses were putting up a solid amount of shots on net, with the Saints registering 10 in the first, compared to the Oles who would register 14. However, Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) successfully converted on one of those 10 shots, twelve-and-a-half minutes into the period giving them a one-goal lead. The period would end with the same score, as the Oles were unable to get a puck in the net.Â
The second period would not see any goals, but some excellent scoring opportunities, and great defense from the Oles. The Oles would only allow the Saints to get two shots off in the period, with their offense getting 14 opportunities. Each team would sit for one penalty a piece, but nothing would come from those power plays. The period would end with the same score as the first, 1-0 in favor of the Saints.Â
The Saints would try to seal the game in the third, and they successfully managed to do just that. The Oles would only allow them to get seven shots on net in the third, but that was enough for Allie Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) to score the game-winning goal, coming off the assist from Lisa LaRoche (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS). The Oles would try their best to get back into the game, putting 13 shots on net in the third, however, they were only able to score once, falling short to the Saints. The game would end with the Saints taking the first game in a two-game series between the two teams.Â
