WINONA, Minn. – The College of St. Scholastica volleyball team finished up their last two games of the Sugar Loaf Classic hosted by the University of Saint Mary's (Minn.). The Saints (1-3) would fall in both of their matches against The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (3-0) and Elmhurst University (3-0).

CSS 0, UWL 3

The Eagles would score the first four points, until Lindsay Baribeau got CSS on the board with a kill. Moments later Ava Swangstue (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) and Natalie Yackley (New Ulm, Minn./New Ulm HS) would both score for the Saints, followed by an attacking error on the Eagles, which would tie the game 5-5. The Eagles would finish strong as they went on a 4-0 run and 6-0 run to grab the first set 25-10

Set two saw six ties as the teams went back-and-forth early, Olivia Bauer (Faribault, Minn./Faribault HS) would secure a kill in the middle of the set as the Saints were now trailing 17-14. CSS would only be able to score a few more points as the Eagles got the 25-17 victory in the second set.

In the third, Grace Myhre (Aberdeen, S.D./Aberdeen Central HS) would earn a service ace to take the lead early, but UWL would answer back with six straight points of their own. As the Saints were down 10-3, they managed to go on a 4-0 run, including a kill by Delany Schaeffer. A few errors from the Eagles would allow the Saints to only be down 22-18, but UWL would score the last two points to take the set 25-19.

Baribeau would lead CSS with six kills, followed by Bauer's five. Myhre would acquire 15 assists and 8 digs and Bauer would lead the Saints with 10 digs.

CSS 0, ELM 3

Myhre would start off with back-to-back service aces, earning two points for her team. CSS would have the 7-3 advantage, but the Bluejays would start to heat up as they went on a 9-0 run, but the Saints would tie things up at 15 apiece. However, another 7-0 run would eventually lead to the Bluejays taking the first set 25-18

The second set would see Baribeau earning the first point for the Saints, then from there it would be all Elmhurst as they captured the 25-6 set. The third set would see the two battles competitively. Myhre would once again start out strong with two service aces and the Bluejays would get a bad set call early as the Saints were up 3-0.

With the Saints down 8-6, Emma Fretheim (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS) got a 4-0 run going with a kill. The Bluejays were now up 13-11, but an attack error, another Myhre ace, and a Bauer kill would give the Saints a 14-13 lead. The last set would come down to the wire as a Fretheim's kill would have the Saints tied at 24 apiece. The Bluejays would score the last two points to earn the final set and overall victory.

Baribeau would lead the team with 11 kills and 2 blocks, while Myhre would record five service aces and have 17 assists. Leading the team in digs was Yackley with 12.

The Saints will get some rest over the Labor Day weekend and then will head over across the bridge next week for the UW-Superior Tournament. The Saints will have three matches, with the first one being on Friday, Sept. 1 vs. Northland College at 5 p.m.
