DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team hosted the Gusties from Gustavus Adolphus in a conference matchup at the Reif Gymnasium. The Gusties took a 17-point lead into the half, and they were able to extend its lead in the second half, as the Gusties came away with a 59-40 victory over St. Scholastica
How it Happened
Gustavus was able to jump out to an early lead with its full court trap until Kloey Lind (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) scored the Saints first field goal.
After the Gusties went on a 6-0 run, Jada Bierschbach (Richmond, Minn./Rocori HS) converted an and-one, making the score 12-7.
Moments later, Hope Carlson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) scored her first points of the night on a layup, as the Gusties took a 13-9 lead into the second quarter.
Gustavus opened the second quarter with a 13-2 run, when Carlson was able to sink a three-pointer, as Gustavus still held its 23-14 lead.
Layups from Lexi Imdieke (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) and Bierschbach would cut the deficit to 17, with Gustavus leading 35-18 at halftime.
Imdieke and Lind scored the first points for CSS in the second half, with Imdieke hitting a three-pointer and Lind a layup, respectively.
Following a Bierschbach layup, the Gusties would go on an 8-0 run, to take a 47-27 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Gustavus was able to extend its lead to 27 before Gabby Voigt (St. Michael. Minn./St. Michael- Albertville HS) scored her first points on a layup, as the score sat at 57-30.
Later in the quarter, Nia Hacker (Farmington, Minn/Eastview HS) was able to hit a jumper to earn her first points of the night, followed by a late layup from Madeline Perry (Ely, Minn./Ely Memorial HS), as the Gusties were able to drain out the rest of the clock, defeating CSS by a score of 59-40.
