Women's Hockey Fall On the Road to Eau Claire

Notables
- Schubert scores first goal of the season, sole scorer for CSS

EAU CLAIRE, Wis - The St. Scholastica women's hockey team traveled to Wisconsin for the second time in the season to play the Blugolds of Eau Claire tonight at Hobbs Ice Arena.

How It Happened
The second game on the road for the Saints ended in a similar fashion to the first, they faced up against the 9th-ranked Blugolds of Eau Claire. The Saints suffered a heavy 8-1 loss after a well-fought match with great effort put in on both sides. The Blugolds started the first period with a goal coming in at 10:50, another followed late in the first at 19:48. The first period would end with no penalties on the board and a score of 2-0 favoring the Blugolds.

The second period would see the start of the chippiness on both sides. Eau Claire would start this period early, with a goal coming in at 2:17. Following that we would see an early penalty on Eau Claire giving the Saints a powerplay, unfortunately, they were not able to make anything of this.

Hannah Martin (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) would be the first Saint to get booked giving the Blugolds a powerplay, a one-skater advantage they would use to score their fourth goal of the game. Jessie Ketola (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelly HS) was also booked shortly after Martin was let out.

The Blugolds would get hit with an interference call leading to a penalty, however, their penalty killers would be able to score a short-handed goal extending their lead to 5-0. Following a few more penalties against Eau Claire, Ketola would be booked once again which would unfortunately lead to another Eau Claire powerplay goal bringing this one-sided game to 6-0. The only other notable event in the second period would be a penalty against Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS).

The third period would spur much less excitement than the second. The period would open with a goal from Lyndi Schubert (Mantorville, Minn./Kasson-Mantorville HS) bringing the Saints somewhat closer to the Blugolds, (6-1). Making the assits on the play were Taylor Leonard (Mound, Minn./Mound Westonka HS) and Emily Sabol (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS).

Following that the Blugolds would score two unanswered goals, ending the game with a score of 8-1.

Goaltending
The Saints would play two goaltenders tonight, Ashlea Arvidson (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) would start for the Saints and play the first two periods, registering 27 saves and letting up 6 goals. Makenzie Cole (Cohasset, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) would get put in for the third period, registering 15 saves and only letting up 2 goals.

The Blugolds' Josie Mathison would play all 60 minutes of tonight's game, registering 12 saves and letting up only one goal.
