Volleyball Defeat Cobbers for First Conference Win

DULUTH, Minn. –The St. Scholastica volleyball team gained their first conference win on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Concordia-Moorhead 3-0. With the win, the Saints improve to 3-14 overall and 1-4 in the MIAC.

After a tough matchup with Gusites last night at home, the Saints bounced back in a big way, Grace Myhre (Aberdeen, S.D./Aberdeen Central HS) scored two aces and the Saints earned two kills to lead 4-0 early. Later, the Saints would receive some points of errors from the Cobbers to lead 13-7. The Cobbers would try for an early comeback but another four point run by the Saints got the first set 25-17.

The two teams would show some grit after both coming off Friday losses and the second set showed as they went to extended play and these units switched leads 13 times in the set. Tied at 28 apiece, Delaney Schaeffer (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS) got her team the 29th point and an error by the foes let CSS take the second set 30-28.

On the edge of their first conference win of the season, CSS would go on a six point run, including two service aces from Bryn Ziegler (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS). Lindsey Baribeau (Biwabik, Minn./Mesabi East HS) scored the Saints' 20th and 21st points as they led by five. Concordia would once again not go down easily, but the Saints would finish strong and take the final set 25-20.
