ARDEN HILLS, Minn. — The College of St. Scholastica women's volleyball team headed over midweek to Bethel University for some MIAC volleyball action. The Saints would see the Royals take all three sets (25-21, 25-12, 26-14). The Saints wouldn't be able to continue their win streak after defeating Concordia last Friday.
The first set saw the Saints jump out to a 2-0 lead, including a kill from
Delaney Schaeffer (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS), the two teams would trade points and then a kill by
Lindsey Baribeau (Biwabik, Minn./Mesabi East HS) would see her team up 9 to the Royals 8. Bethel would go on a 4-0 run after, but the Saints would continue to score points only being two or three points behind. Unfortunately, they wouldn't be able to catch up and lost the first set 25-21.
The second set saw Bethel take control,
Ava Swangstue (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) would record a kill, but the Saints were already down by 10. Former Royal,
Mikala Peterson (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) had a service ace for the Saints 10th point, and CSS would only be able to score four more as the Royals finished the second set.
The third and final set would once again go in the Royals favor, Natale Yackley managed a kill, but the Saints were down 8-4 early. A few moments later, CSS would go on a 4-0 run, including kills by Peterson and Baribeau, and a service ace by Grace Mhyre. Bethel would go on some runs themselves and close out the match with a 3-0 victory over CSS.
Myhre had 21 assists, Baribeau continued to lead the team and came through with seven kills, while
Olivia Bauer (Faribault, Minn./Faribault HS) had 14 digs on the evening.
