DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica Volley team played their first game of the weekend as they faced No. 16 Gustavus Adolphus. The Gusties won the match 3-0 and had a dominant victory over the Saints.
Gustavus would start with a four-point run and would continue to score points as the Saints would manage a few. Back-to-back kills by
Mikala Peterson (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) got her team seven points, but the opponents already had 19. The Gusties would grab six more points to the Saints two and win the first set 25-9.
The Gusties would again have a great start to set two,
Emma Fretheim (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS) managed a kill to stop the damage as the score was 7-3. Gustavus would again take control and finish the second set 25-11.
In the early goings of the final set CSS went point-for-point with the Gusties as a service ace by
Lindsey Baribeau (Biwabik, Minn./Mesabi East HS) tied the game up at three. The Saints would keep this set a little closer as
Ava Swangstue (Grand Forks, N.D./Red River HS) recorded a kill, a little later the Gusties would score five straight to take the match and set 25-14.
Top Performers
Leading the contest in kills for CSS was Baribeau and Peterson with five each. Baribeau also would record 3 blocks, respectively.
Grace Myhre (Aberdeen, S.D./Aberdeen Central HS) had 12 assists and
Olivia Bauer (Faribault, Minn./Faribault HS) managed nine digs tonight.
