- Bussey scores first goal of the season, only Saints scorer
RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The College of St. Scholastica women's hockey team played their first regular season game of the year against the Falcons of River Falls tonight, at Hunt Arena.
What Happened
Unfortunately, the game did not go how the Saints would have liked, playing the 5th-ranked Falcons of River Falls. The game ended 8-1, after a well-fought but heavily one-sided contest in River Falls. The game started with a goal from River Falls giving them the 1-0 lead at 8:41 in the first period. The first period would end with River Falls leading 2-0 against the Saints. Their second goal came with four minutes remaining in the period.
We would see some action on both sides of the ice in the second period, with Allie Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) scoring the Saint's only goal of the game at 4:46, assisted by Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS). The Falcons would respond with two goals of their own, one scored at 7:15, and the other scored at 11:30. The Saints would also suffer two penalty calls in the second, one against Paige Blattner (Avon, Minn./River Lakes HS), at 2:28 for hooking, and the other against Hull, at 16:56 for roughing.Â
The third period would see a flurry of goals by the Falcons. The Saints gave it their all in the third, but it was no match for the Falcons' strong offense, which scored goals at 0:46, 1:40, 4:23, and 13:10. Only two penalties were handed out during the third period, one given to each team. Hull was booked at 16:13 for tripping.Â
