DULUTH, Minn. – The St. Scholastica volleyball faced off against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foe Saint Mary's on Saturday evening in Reif Gymnasium. The Saints would be able to start off strong and take the first 25-22, after that the Cardinals would be able to take control of the match winning the next three sets (25-21, 25-17, 25-18).
Saint Mary's would lead early in the first set 13-9, but the Saints would be able to come back and score four straight to tie the game up, which included kills by
Olivia Bauer (Faribault, Minn./Faribault HS) and
Emily Slettedahl (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS). The two teams would trade leads until
Delaney Schaeffer (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS) and a Bauer service ace saw the Saints up 24-21. An error on the Cardinals would allow the Saints to take the first set.
The Cardinals would slowly take control of the match as they would win the next three matches. The Cardinals had 54 kills to the Saints 49, the Cardinals 11 aces seemed to help them get the win tonight. The Saints would lead in blocks tonight with six to Saint Mary's five.
Bauer had 14 kills on the night for the Saints, followed by
Mikala Peterson's (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) 11, and
Lindsey Baribeau (Biwabik, Minn./Mesabi East HS) managed 10.
Grace Myhre (Aberdeen, S.D./Aberdeen Central HS) continues to break her career assist totals this season, she had 42 on the evening.
Riley Panger (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) led the team in digs with a new career-high of 17.
St. Scholastica returns to play next Friday's traveling to take on St. Kates for a 7 p.m. match against the Wildcats.
