ST. PETER, Minn.
(csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team traveled to St. Peter this evening, taking on the Gusties from Gustavus Adolphus. The Saints faced a big deficit early, and ultimately fell in today's contest by a score of 83-52.
First Half
The Saints found itself up early in this one, as
Eve Turner (Side Lake, Minn./Hibbing HS) and
Lexi Imdieke (Andover, MN/Andover High School) got the first five points for the Saints.
A three-pointer by
Miranda Broberg (Milaca, Minn./Milaca HS (UW-Superior)) cut the deficit to just two points, as Gustavus led 12-10 with four minutes to play in the first quarter.
Jackie Johnson (Bemidji, MN/Bemidji High School) scored the last field goal for CSS in the first quarter, as Gustavus went on an 8-0 run to take a 20-12 lead into the second quarter.
The Saints struggled in the second quarter, as the only point they got was a free throw by
Megan Hurley (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury HS), as the Gusties took a 37-17 lead at halftime.
Second Half
Imdieke got the first two field goals of the half for CSS, hitting a layup and a three-pointer, but Gustavus still led in this one by a score of 46-21.
Hurley got a layup to go with five minutes to play, which was followed by a three by Broberg just a few minutes later.
Katie Vaske (Woodbury, MN/Woodbury High School (Hamline University)) scored the final points for the Saints in the third quarter, with a good three-pointer, but CSS trailed 60-33 heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Johnson converted an and-one with six minutes left, to give CSS a nice highlight on the night.
Ashley Faur (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) got herself on the scoreboard in the quarter, scoring five points, but ultimately the Saints fell tonight by a score of 83-52.

The Saints (1-17, 1-15) will be in action next on Wednesday, where they will host the Auggies from Augsburg, on National Girls and Women's in Sports Day. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
