RIVER FALLS, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team opened the New Year in River Falls, Wis, for a non-conference game against second-ranked University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The Saints had an early lead, but it was the Falcons who scored five straight to defeat the Saints 5-1 Tuesday night at Hunt Arena.

How it Happened
The Saints were the first team to start on the power-play as the Falcons were called for tripping at the 13:51 mark. The Saints got four shots in on the Falcons but were unable to score. Although a few minutes later, it was CSS who scored first, at 9:31, Jessie Ketola (Silver Bay, Minn./William Kelly HS) put the puck in the net, her third goal of the season. Kayla Kasel (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and Hanley Block (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) had the assists. Kasel now leads the team with 3 assists. The Saints were on the board, 1-0. 

Less than a minute later, UWRF answered right back with a goal of their own to tie the game. The Falcons would take advantage of a penalty by the Saints, the Falcons scored with 3:28 remaining in the first period. At the end of the first period, the Saints trailed 2-1.

The Falcons made it 3-1 early into the second period and would carry that momentum for the rest of the period as they once again scored at the 8:15 spot. At the end of the period, the Falcons were up 4-1. The Saints would lead in faceoffs won that period, but only had 5 shots on goal compared to the Falcon's 13.

River Falls added another goal in the third period to make the final 5-1. The Falcons (12-2) with their fourth consecutive win and second win over the Saints this season.

Goaltending
Freshman Kenzie Cole (Cohasset, Minn./Grand Rapids HS) made 33 saves for the Saints tonight, earning herself a save percentage of .884. Sami Miller had 18 saves for the Falcons.

The Saints (3-7-1, MIAC 2-4-0) return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action when they travel to Fargo, N.D., to take on Concordia College for a two-game series. The action begins Friday at 7 p.m.
