Women’s Hockey’s MIAC Unbeaten Streak Ends After Comeback Falls Short

SAINT PAUL (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team fell behind 4-0 and got within one goal with five minutes remaining, but ultimately fell to St. Catherine University 6-3 Saturday afternoon, putting a halt to the team's six-game Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) unbeaten streak.
 
How it Happened
Like Friday night, the Wildcats (7-14-1, 3-11-0 MIAC) jumped up early on the Saints. However, it would not just be two goals, St. Kate's scored four in the first period and led 4-0 at the first intermission.
 
After a scoreless second period, the Saints finally got on the board with a Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) power-play goal with less than 10 minutes remaining. Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) had the assist. Less than three minutes later, Allie Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) made the deficit 4-2 with Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) on the assist.
 
With five minutes left, with was the Thompson-to-Anderson combo again making it 4-3. St. Scholastica pulled its netminder less than two minutes remaining and St. Catherine was able to find the empty net twice to win by a final of 6-3.
 
Goaltending
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) made 24 saves in relief for the Saints. Elizabeth Kubicek had 28 saves for St. Kate's

The Saints (11-7-2, 8-3-2 MIAC) begin their final series of the regular season on Thursday at Mars Lakeview Arena when they welcome first-place Gustavus Adolphus College. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
