DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team erased an early two-goal deficit and then held off St. Catherine University 6-4 Friday night in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action at Mars Lakeview Arena.
How it Happened
The Wildcats scored a pair of even-strength goals in the first eight minutes of the game to take a 2-0 lead.
Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) cut the deficit in half with a goal at the midway point of the opening period to make it 2-1.
Ashley Healy (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and
Courtney Bloemke (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato West HS) had the assists. The 2-1 score remained the rest of the period, despite the Saints having a 16-8 shots advantage in the period.
Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) found the net four minutes into the second period to tie the score at 2-2. Bloemke and
Kayla Kasel (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) were credited with the assists. St. Scholastica then took the lead on Pohlkamp's second tally of the night to make it 3-2 CSS at the second intermission.
After St. Kate's tied the contest five minutes into the third period, Bloemke gave the Saints lead right back two minutes later to make it 4-3. Anderson added her second of the night with 8:49 remaining with assist from
Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS). St. Catherine would make it a one-goal margin again two minutes later as the score stood at 5-4.
Pohlkamp completed the hat trick with an empty-net goal in the final two minutes to make the final 6-4 Saints.
Goaltending
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) made 20 saves to earn the win for the Saints, while Elizabeth Kubicek had 36 saves for St. Kate's.
