NORTHFIELD, Minn.
(csssaints.com) – This afternoon, the St. Scholastica football team made the trip to Northfield to take on one of its conference competitors, the Knights from Carleton College. Carleton was able to jump out to an early lead, as the Knights led 49-7 at halftime, and held off the Saints from a comeback today, defeating CSS by a score of 56-20.
How it Happened
The Knights got the scoring early in this one, as Carleton scored on its first two drives, to take an early 14-0 lead over CSS.
Andrew Burgess II (Tampa, Fla./Cypress Creek HS) led off a Saints drive with a 42-yard kickoff return, which was followed by a 15-yard personal foul by the Knights, to give CSS great field position. For the first time in the game, CSS found itself in the endzone, courtesy of
Nick Schlender (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS), who rushed for 15 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown, to cut the deficit to 21-7.
Carleton was able to add to its lead in the second quarter, taking a 49-7 lead into halftime.
With minimal action in the third quarter, CSS added to its total early in the fourth quarter.
Donald West (St. Paul, Minn./Woodbury HS (Iowa Central)) connected with
Wyatt Lahr (Bowlus, Minn./Royalton HS) for 16 yards, then hit
Ricky Weber (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) for a 23-yard gain.
Ashton Hain (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis HS) added nine yards with the running game, before West connected with
Benjamin Hunter (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) for a gain of four yards and a first down. West then found
Tyrique Givance (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) for a 10-yard touchdown reception to make it 49-13 in favor of the Knights.
After the defense forced a Knights punt, the Saints' offense went to work and it didn't take long as Hain totaled 67 yards on two rushes, including a 60-yard touchdown, to make it 49-20.
Carleton would score again in the late minutes to make it 50-26 and would defeat St. Scholastica in today's meeting.
