MOORHEAD, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – For the second straight game the St. Scholastica men's basketball team saw a halftime lead slip away as Concordia College-Moorhead rallied past the Saints for a 70-62 victory on Saturday in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play.
How It Happened
After the Cobbers (3-6, 3-4 MIAC) opened the scoring, the Saints went on an 8-0 run with
Cade Goggleye (Nett Lake, Minn./North Woods HS) recording five of the eight points. Goggleye had eight points in the first three minutes of the game as the Saints led 11-4. Back-to-back layups by
Noah Winesett (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) gave CSS a nine-point advantage with 13 minutes left in the first half.
After Concordia cut the deficit to one with four minutes left in the half, 3-pointers by
Isiah Hendrickson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Winesett made it 33-26. CSS led 33-27 at the half. Hendrickson led the Saints with nine points in the half. CSS committed just five turnovers, while the Cobbers had 10 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes.
Concordia opened the second half with a 7-0 run to regain the lead for the first time since it was 2-0. However, the Saints scored eight of the next 10 points with
Jack Silgen (Deerwood, Minn./Crosby-Ironton HS (St. Thomas)) contributing four points during that span. A
Jeff Moore (Richfield, Minn./Richfield HS) put back made it 46-42 St. Scholastica with 11:40 remaining.
Unfortunately, the Saints would go without a made field goal over the next five minutes and the Cobbers took advantage going on a 16-0 run to turn a four-point deficit into a 12-point lead. CSS committed four turnovers during that span.
St. Scholastica did not get closer than eight points the final seven minutes of the game, falling 70-62.
