Women’s Hockey Again Breaks Tie in the Third to Sweep Cobbers

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – For the second straight day, the St. Scholastica women's hockey team won the third period as Mariah Haedrich's (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) goal midway through the third period proved to be the game-winner in a 4-2 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead on Saturday at Mars Lakeview Arena to complete Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) series sweep.
 
How it Happened
Allie Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) scored five minutes into the game to five the Saints an early 1-0 advantage. Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) and Lily Holtz (Austin, Minn./Austin HS) had the assists.
 
Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) gave CSS a 2-0 lead two minutes into the second period with assists from Taylor Murray (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) and Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS). Later in the period, the Cobbers (6-11-0, 2-8-0 MIAC) tied the contest up with back-to-back goals less than six minutes apart to make it 2-2 at the second intermission.
 
St. Scholastica regained the lead with 9:52 remaining in the third period when Haedrich found the net to make it 3-2. Anderson and Thompson had the assists. Bussey added an empty-net goal in the final minute to make the final 4-2.
 
Goaltending
Ashlea Arvidson (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS) made 37 saves for her second straight win in net. Kiana Flaig had 28 saves for the Cobbers.
 
Up Next
The Saints (9-6-1, 6-2-1 MIAC) are back at home on Friday for the first of a home-and-home series against Bethel University. Action begins at 7 p.m. at Mars Lakeview Arena.
