csssaints.com) – Senior goaltender
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) stopped 43 shots as the St. Scholastica women's hockey team defeated the College of Saint Benedict 3-1 Saturday evening in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) action at Mars Lakeview Arena.
How it Happened
The first period went by scoreless with the Bennies (5-7-0, 2-4-0 MIAC) having a 12-8 advantage in shots. The Saints killed two St. Ben's power-plays in the period.
It remained scoreless until
Mariah Haedrich (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) re-directed a
Taylor Murray (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) shot and found the net to give the Saints a 1-0 lead with eight minutes left in the second period.
Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) made it 2-0 St. Scholastica eight minutes into the third period.
Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) and
Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) had the assists. Saint Benedict made it a one-goal game again 37 seconds later to make it 2-1.
However,
Courtney Bloemke (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato West HS) lit the lamp for the Saints with under 10 minutes remaining to make it 3-1.
Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) and
Ashley Healy (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) had the assists. St. Ben's had a power-play in the final five minutes and pulled their netminder with 2:25 remaining, but the score finished at 3-1 Saints.
Goaltending
Huseby finished with 43 saves for the Saints, including 19 saves in the third period. Ally Frantzick had 28 saves for the Bennies.
