DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – In a game that came together in the last 36 hours, the St. Scholastica women's hockey team had a puck deflect off a skate on its power-play and into its own net and that was the lone goal as the University of Wisconsin-Superior won 1-0 Tuesday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.

How it Happened
The Saints came out fast in the opening period looking to jump ahead of the Yellowjackets (6-5-1), including a power-play in the opening five minutes, but could not find the net. The first period ended scoreless with UWS having a 13-10 edge in shots.

The second period was all Yellowjackets, outshooting the Saints 17-8, but CSS goaltender Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) kept the game scoreless. The Saints earned a power-play with less than seven minutes remaining in the period and as the Saints were setting up an attack up the ice a cross-ice pass deflected off a UWS skate and was able to trickle past Huseby into the net to make it 1-0 Superior.

The Saints were looking for the equalizer in the third period and Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) had some great looks, including striking the pipe once late. Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) had a chance in front in the final minute, but the Yellowjackets were able to hold on for the 1-0 victory.

Goaltending
Huseby finished with a season-high 43 saves for the Saints, while McKenzie Whalen had 24 saves for the Yellowjackets.

Up Next
The Saints (6-5-1) were scheduled to face Saint Mary's University this weekend for a two-game Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) series, but those games will be canceled. Stay tuned for further schedule updates.
