DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The College of St Scholastica football team hosted the Augsburg University Auggies for its first action in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) on Saturday at Public Schools Stadium. Augsburg out-gained the Saints in total yards 504-255 and scored 33 points in the first half to get its first win of the season 54-14.

First Half
An injury to freshman quarterback Giuliano Villalpando (Houston, Texas/Clear Lake HS) on the first play of the opening drive for the Saints forced fellow freshman Byron Bishop (Sublimity, Ore./Regis HS) to take over the helm of the offense early. After a three-and-out on the Saints' opening drive, Augsburg (1-2, 1-0 MIAC) marched down the field on a seven-play, 64-yard drive to take a 6-0 lead after a missed extra point.

After a forced fumble by Augsburg, a 12-yard pass from Cade Sheehan to Braden Tretter made the score 13-0 with the extra point attempt being successful on this drive.

On Augsburg's last drive of the first quarter, Sheehan connected with Josiah Ferguson for a score to cap off a 74-yard drive to give Augsburg a 20-0 lead.

Augsburg opened up the second quarter with a continuation of a drive they took over after a failed fourth down attempt for CSS. A nine-play drive led to a Sheehan touchdown pass to Dominic Smith for 22 yards which gave the Auggies a 26-0 lead after a blocked extra point attempt by Richie Rodney (Baytown, Texas/Goose Creek Memorial HS).

Augsburg added to the lead with a 27-yard Sheehan pass to Smith for his second touchdown of the half with 3:46 left in the first half that extended the Auggies lead to 33-0.

The Saints got on the board with 36 seconds left in the half from a pass by Bishop to Ty Givance (Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) that ended a long 12-play drive which made the score 33-7. Running back Bryceton Butkiewicz (Kettle River, Minn./Moose Lake HS) had six carries on the drive for 38 yards.

Second Half
The Saints forced a three-and-out for the Auggies to open up the second half and on the ensuing drive, a one-yard touchdown run by Butkiewicz capped off a long drive that made the score 33-14.

Augsburg's next drive was an efficient one that resulted in another Dominic Smith touchdown from a Sheehan pass that made the score 40-14 with 6:44 left in the third quarter.

After a stop on fourth down for the Saints, CSS was intercepted by Steven Hentosh who took it to the house for a pick-six, which made the score 47-14 with 14:14 left in the 4th quarter.

The Auggies added one more score late to make the final 54-14
