DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball fell in three sets to St. Olaf College in its first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) match on Wednesday at the Reif Gymnasium.
How it Happened
In the opening set, the Saints held a 20-18 lead following an
Ashley Larson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) kill, but the Oles (4-6, 1-0 MIAC) responded with four consecutive points to take a 22-20 advantage. Kills by Larson and
Caitlin Schneeweis (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Mary)) knotted the set at 22-22 apiece. However, the Oles won the final three points to take the first set 25-22.
St. Olaf won five straight points early in the second set. The Saints got within a point five times later in the set, including at 23-22 before the Oles won the final two points to take the second set 25-22 once again.
The third set was tight early on and the Saints were able to take a 17-16 lead following a
Madissen Burns (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) kills. However, St. Olaf was able to win nine of the next 11 points to sweep in the Saints in three sets 25-19.
Top Performers
Burns led the Saints with eight kills.
Jessica Remer (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart HS) added seven kills and 14 digs.
Katie Brostrom (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) recorded 27 assists and
Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) had a team-high 16 digs.
