ST. PAUL (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team was defeated by top-seeded University of Northwestern (Minn.) Friday night 17-2 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament.
How It Happened
The Saints got on top of the Eagles (31-10) early as
Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) singled in
Mitchell Novak (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) and then
Mitchell Olson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) scored on a groundout as CSS led 2-0 after a half inning.
Northwestern plated one run in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 2-1. The Eagles then took control in the second scoring five runs on five hits to take a 6-2 lead. They then added four runs in both the third and fourth innings as the Eagles went on to win by a final of 17-2.
Up Next:
The Saints (19-8) will now face Bethany Lutheran College in an elimination game at 1 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday). If the Saints win that they will face Northwestern again at 4 p.m. and will need to beat the Eagles to force a winner-take-all championship game on Sunday.
