DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team got four hits from
Mitchell Novak (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS) and the pitching staff held Hamline University to just three hits as the Saints wrapped up the regular season with 10-0 victory in seven innings on Wednesday at Wade Stadium.
How It Happened
The Saints plated four in the first inning on a
Mitchell Olson (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie HS) RBI single and then a bases clearing, three-run double by
Luke Schemenauer (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS). A Piper (13-24) error prolonged the second inning, which allowed a couple of unearned runs to score on a triple by Olson to make it 6-0.
Novak added two more runs in the fourth with a single to bring in
Matt Tautges (Fort Ripley, Minn./Pierz HS) and
Alex Haapajoki (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS (Central Lakes CC)). Tautges added a sacrifice fly in the sixth and
Jake Schelonka (Sartell, Minn./Sartell HS) a RBI single later in the inning to make the final 10-0 in seven innings due to mercy-rule.
Pitching
Dallas Miller (Monticello, Minn./Big Lake HS) struck out four in four innings and allowed just one hit to earn the win.
Jerry Gooley (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove HS),
Jack Perala (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and
Wes Kemming (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North HS) combined for three strikeouts and allowed just two hits over the final three innings.
Up Next: The Saints (18-7) will be the No. 2 seed in next week's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament down at the University of Northwestern (Minn.). The Saints will open with rival Bethany Lutheran College next Thursday.
