SUPERIOR, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team battled Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior late Tuesday night across the border and Morgan Friday's (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's HS) goal in the 71st minute broke a 1-1 tie to give the Saints the 2-1 victory.

How It Happened
The Saints took an early lead when Hunter Zamzow (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's School) scored in the seventh minute to make it 1-0. The Yellowjackets (5-2-0, 5-2-0 UMAC) responded in the 22nd minute with a goal to tie the contest at 1-1. It was the first goal allowed by the Saints against an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opponent in the last 15 regular season games. Later, Kaiya Quam (Oakdale, Minn./Mounds View HS) hit the crossbar in the final minute of the first half, as the score remained tied at 1-1. CSS outshot UWS 10-4 in the first half.

St. Scholastica kept the pressure on Superior for much of the second half, but could not get a quality strike on target. It wasn't until Karissa Beaston (Madera, Calif./Shattuck St. Mary's HS (Minn.)) played the ball forward and Friday sprinted past the defenders to be 1-on-1 with goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the back of the net to give the Saints a 2-1 lead with just over 19 minutes left in regulation.

The Yellowjackets' best scoring chance of the second half came in the final two minutes with a ball played into the penalty area, but UWS could not get a boot on it. They would also get a corner in the final 10 seconds, but the final shot attempt from 25 yards out sailed high and the Saints came away with a 2-1 victory.
