DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – St. Scholastica women's soccer celebrated their Senior Day on Saturday by defeating the University of Minnesota Morris 7-0 on the home turf to capture their 18
th Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season championship.
How It Happened
The women were encouraged to defend their undefeated record on senior day and started making plays right away. Three minutes in
McKenzie Nelson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) took the first shot of the game followed by
Kaiya Quam (Oakdale, Minn./Mounds View HS) 58 seconds later. Seven more shots were taken by the Saints before
Brea Archer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) scored the first goal with a high shot to the left corner. The Saints continued to fire off the shots and ended the first period with 13 shots to Minnesota Morris' zero.
The Saints entered the second half up by one.
The women continued to dominate Morris in both possession and shots, with
Morgan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's HS) and Quam making attempts less than five minutes in. In the 50th minute Quam scored the second goal taking a shot to the low left, with assists by Nelson and
Hunter Zamzow (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's School). Two minutes later, Friday made a shot to the right corner and scored the third goal of the game, assisted by
Elisa Galyen (Duluth, Minn./Two Harbors HS).
In the 56th minute Quam scored the fourth goal with a shot to the high left, assisted by Nelson and Galyen. The Saints continued to ride high and four minutes later they made the score 5-0 with a high left shot by
Mara Roberts (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS) and another assist by Galyen. In the 80th minute Friday scored the sixth goal and
Sami Szendrey (Two Harbors, Minn./Two Harbors HS) scored the seventh goal four minutes later.
The Saints ended the game with a 7-0 victory and a total of 29 shots with 18 of them on goal.

The Saints (7-0-0, 7-0-0 UMAC) will be the No. 1 seed for next week's UMAC Tournament and will host the University of Northwestern (Minn.) on Wednesday at Saints Field in a semifinal match.
