MINNEAPOLIS (
csssaints.com) – The 19
th-ranked St. Scholastica softball team extended its win streak to 17 games with a pair of road wins over North Central University (Minn.) on Monday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.
Game 1: CSS 13, North Central 0 (F/5)
The Saints scored six runs before the Rams (3-19, 0-14 UMAC) came to the plate in the 13-0 game one win.
Mara Seurer (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) and
Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) had RBI singles in the top of the first.
Heidi Stewart (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS (Saint Mary's)) followed with a RBI double and
Aislind Dail (Sumner, Wash./Sumner HS) brought everyone in with a three-run home run to make it 6-0.
After
Nicole Anders (Port Angeles, Wash./Sequim HS) scored in the second inning,
Alex Wurzer (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) had a two-run triple in the third to extend the lead to 9-0. Wurzer then scored on a
Grace Hadlich (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) sacrifice fly and
Mady Peterson (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) came across on another Seurer RBI single to make it 11-0.
Rosenthal scored on a North Central error in the fourth and Peterson drove in
Kate Broderick (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) for the final run of the game as the contest ended in five innings 13-0.
Rosenthal struck out a career-high 12 and allowed just three hits to improve to 14-2 on the year. Seurer was 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBIs.
Game 2: CSS 20, North Central 2 (F/5)
Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) hit three of the team's four home runs and also earned the win as the Saints completed the sweep 20-2 in five innings.
After Hadlich came all the way around to score off of a Rams error in the top of the first, Howe hit her first home run of the game. Stewart then recorded a RBI triple to make it 3-0. Dail followed with her second three-run home run of the day and the score stood at 6-0.
After
Emma Stanoch (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) scored later in the inning, Howe hit her second home run of the inning with a three-run blast to conclude the 10-run top of the first for the Saints. She becomes the first Saint since Kara Warren in 2016 to homer twice in one inning.
Stanoch had a RBI single in the second before Howe homered for a third time, a two-run shot, in the third to tie the program record set by her Head Coach
Rilee Dawson in 2007. She had another two-run triple in the fourth to make it 17-0.
Makenzie Reiter (Big Lake, Minn./Big Lake HS) had a two-run triple in the fifth to bring in
Bailey Dunaski (Wyoming, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and
Avery Thompson (Austin, Minn./Austin HS). Broderick had the last RBI to make the final tally 20-2.
Howe struck out nine for her team-best 15
th win of the season. She was also 4-for-4 with three home runs and seven RBIs. Stanoch was 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

The Saints (29-3, 12-0 UMAC) will host Northland College in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday at Kenwood Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
