DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The University of Northwestern (Minn.) handed the St. Scholastica women's tennis team its first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) loss on Saturday by a 7-2 score in CSS' regular season finale at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center.
Doubles
The Saints fell behind early, dropping all three doubles matches.
The No. 1 team of
Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) and
Madilyn Jankila (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) fell in a tiebreaker 8-7 (8-6).
Singles
The Eagles (10-5, 5-0 UMAC) won four of the six singles matches to take the dual. Two of those four losses for the Saints came in a third-set super-breaker after CSS won the opening set.
Maier won at the No. 1 spot by scores of 7-5, 6-1.
Maya Nibbe (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) also prevailed at the No. 3 spot by scores of 7-5, 6-4.
