DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – On Saturday, the 19
th-ranked St. Scholastica softball team faced Martin Luther College in a conference doubleheader to celebrate Senior Day. The Saints swept the Knights to continue their winning streak to 15 and stay undefeated in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).
Game 1: CSS 12, Martin Luther 5
The Senior Day crowd saw a lot of action for the Saints as they topped the Knights 12-5.
In the first three innings the Saints outscored Martin Luther 7-0. In the first inning,
Nicole Anders (Port Angeles, Wash./Sequim HS) scored the first run off a single by
Grace Hadlich (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS). Later,
Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) hit a single for two RBIs when
Mara Seurer (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) and Hadlich scored. Rosenthal then would advance to score off of a single by
Toni Bishop (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) to make the score 4-0 after the first.
In the third inning Rosenthal hit another single to advance
Heidi Stewart (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS (Saint Mary's)) home. Soon after, Anders hit a double, and the Knights allowed two unearned runs. Making the score 7-0 after three.
In the fourth and fifth inning the Knights got on the board with three runs. Those runs did not go unanswered when
Aislind Dail (Sumner, Wash./Sumner HS) hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning. In the fifth inning the Saints scored an unearned run and another on a single by Hadlich.
In the sixth, Bishop singled to the left side and
Avery Thompson (Austin, Minn./Austin HS) scored. The first of the Senior Day doubleheader ended with a Saints win 12-5.
Rosenthal got awarded her 13
th win of the season. She allowed only five hits and had four strikeouts. Rosenthal also drove in three at the plate. Hadlich went 3-for-4 and Dail hit a home run. Anders had a double and a triple.
Game 2: CSS 8, Martin Luther 0 (F/5)
The second game of the day saw the Saints shutout the Knights to finish in five innings.
The first inning the Saints scored on a single by junior pitcher
Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS). The second inning saw the Saints score four runs to jump the lead up to 5-0. The Saints had some strong base running with three stolen bases in this game.
The fourth and fifth inning saw Hadlich single to right field, bases were advanced on an error in the field and Stewart scored an unearned run. In the fifth inning, Howe hit a double to earn two RBIs when
Kari Breuer (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and
Alex Wurzer (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) scored the final two runs of the game. With a final score of 8-0 the Saints remain undefeated in the UMAC and extend their winning streak to 15 games.
Howe earned her 14
th win. Allowing only two hits and nine strikeouts out of the 16 batters she faced. She also went 4-for-7 batting on the day.

The Saints (27-3, 10-0 UMAC) were scheduled to travel and face Bethany Lutheran College in a makeup contest on Sunday, but those games have been postponed due to forecasted inclement weather.
