SUPERIOR, Wis. (
csssaints.com) – In a battle of conference unbeatens, the St. Scholastica women's tennis team topped bridge rival University of Wisconsin-Superior 7-2 on Thursday.
Doubles
The Saints took two of the three doubles matches to begin things.
The No. 2 team of
Ava Warren (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and
Emily Carpenter (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) blanked their opponents 8-0 for their sixth straight win. The No. 3 tandem of
Maya Nibbe (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) and
Hannah Loewen (St. James, Minn./St. James HS) won by an 8-3 margin.
Singles
CSS then won five of the six singles matches in straight sets.
At the No. 2 spot,
Madilyn Jankila (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) won by scores of 6-3, 6-4 for her third straight win. Same scores but reversed for Nibbe at the No. 3 spot winning 6-4, 6-3.
Warren prevailed 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 4 spot.
Maria Valentini (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 5 spot for her third consecutive victory.
Julia Ellefson (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) dropped just one game to win at the No. 6 spot by scores of 6-1, 6-0.
