Women’s Soccer Disposes of Northland

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team deftly handled Northland College, winning 6-0 and holding possession nearly the entire time on Wednesday at Saints Field.
 
How It Happened
20 seconds into the contest the Saints were already pushing against Northland's defense with a shot by Morgan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's HS). Only four minutes into the game Elisa Galyen (Duluth, Minn./Two Harbors HS) made the first goal with a high left shot and an assist by Friday. The CSS women continued to fire towards the back of the net and scored the second goal of the game 22 minutes in. Friday took the shot to the high left of the net with an assist by Mara Roberts (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd HS). In the 38th minute Friday made her second goal of the game by firing towards the high center of the net, and was assisted by both Brea Archer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Grace Beck (East Grand Forks, Minn./East Grand Forks HS). CSS ended the first half with three goals on 21 shots to Northland's zero.
 
McKenzie Nelson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) scored the first goal of the second half in the 56th minute with a shot to the high right - she was assisted by Galyen. In the 63rd minute Friday, assisted by Kaiya Quam (Oakdale, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Galyen, took a shot to the low center and scored the fifth goal for CSS. Friday scored her fourth goal of the game in the 75th minute with a shot to the low left corner. The Saints continued to pepper the net and came out with three goals in the second half and 31 shots.
 
CSS ended the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match winning 6-0.

The Saints (4-0-0, 4-0-0 UMAC) will take on Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato on Saturday. The UMAC match starts at 3:30 p.m.
