Softball Pushes Win Streak to 11

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The Saints pounded out 29 hits in just 10 innings of plate appearances as it swept Northland College on Monday 9-1 and 13-0 in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) doubleheader at Kenwood Field.
 
Game 1: CSS 9, Northland 1 (F/6)
The opener was a pitcher's duel as neither team recorded a hit until the bottom of the fourth. However, the Saints broke it open with five runs in the fifth to win going away in six innings.
 
Mady Peterson (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) got the first hit of the game to lead off the fourth inning. She then scored on an Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) triple to make it 1-0. Howe later scored on a double steal attempt to make it 2-0.
 
CSS got the bats really going in the fifth inning with five hits. Danielle Erickson (International Falls, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS) scored on a Nicole Anders (Port Angeles, Wash./Sequim HS) single for the first run of the inning. Josie Fourre (Albany, Minn./Albany HS) later scored on a Howe fielder's choice. Anders then scored on a Mara Seurer (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) infield single. Haley Rosenthal (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) brought in two runs on a blooper that fell on the right field line to make the score 7-0.
 
After the LumberJills (14-14, 6-4 UMAC) got a run in the sixth inning, an Anders RBI double, followed by a Heidi Stewart (Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS (Saint Mary's)) RBI single in the bottom frame gave the Saints the 9-1 victory in six innings.
 
Rosenthal struck out seven in six innings for her 11th win. Anders had a pair of hits, drove in a pair of runs and scored a pair of runs. Fourre was also 2-for-3 at the plate.
 
Game 2: CSS 13, Northland 0 (F/5)
It was all St. Scholastica in game two, scoring four runs in three of the four innings it batted as the Saints rolled to the 13-0 win.
 
Grace Hadlich (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS) ripped a double to bring in the first run of the game. Seurer followed with a RBI single to make it 2-0. Seurer later scored on a Aislind Dail (Sumner, Wash./Sumner HS) sacrifice fly to make it 3-0. Rosenthal also had a RBI in the inning to make it 4-0 after one.
 
Hadlich had another double to lead off the second and scored on a Howe RBI single. Seurer followed with another RBI single and Dail drove in two with a double to make it 8-0 after two innings.
 
The Saints were held to an Olivia Howe (Scandia, Minn./Forest Lake HS) home run in the third inning to make it 9-0. Emma Stanoch (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji HS) had a RBI single in the fourth to make it 10-0. Then Avery Thompson (Austin, Minn./Austin HS) hit a three-run home run to cap the scoring and give the Saints a 13-0 win.
 
Howe allowed just three hits and struck out four in the pitcher's circle to improve to 12-1 on the year. Anders, Hadlich, Howe, Seurer, Stewart, Dail and Rosenthal all had multiple hits in the 19-hit attack by the Saints.

The Saints (23-3, 6-0 UMAC) are back at Kenwood Field on Wednesday where they will host Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior beginning at 3:30 p.m.
