MORRIS, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team had a tightly-contested match with the University of Minnesota Morris on Sunday and came away with the 6-3 victory for its third straight win.
Doubles
The Saints prevailed in all three doubles matches. The No. 1 team of
Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) and
Madilyn Jankila (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) won by an 8-6 score. The No. 2 tandem of
Ava Warren (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and
Emily Carpenter (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) cruised to an 8-2 win. Finally, the No. 3 team of
Maya Nibbe (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) and
Madeline Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS) won 8-3.
Singles
The Cougars (7-3, 3-2 UMAC) gave the Saints a fight in singles play with three of the six matches going to three sets.
Warren was the only Saint to win in straight sets by scores of 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot. Jankila rallied from a set down to come out on top at the No. 2 spot 4-6, 6-3, (10-2).
The third singles winner for CSS was Samz at the No. 6 spot by scores of 6-4, 5-7, (10-6).

The Saints (4-4, 4-0 UMAC) will face bridge rival University of Wisconsin-Superior in Superior on Tuesday with the start time scheduled for 4 p.m.
