VIRGINIA, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team shut out Bethany Lutheran College 9-0 on Friday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play at the Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball Club.
Doubles
The 8-1 final score was the theme of the three CSS doubles wins. The No. 1 team of
Julia Maier (Hamburg, Germany/Heidberg Gymnasium) and
Madilyn Jankila (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS), the No. 2 team of
Ava Warren (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) and
Emily Carpenter (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) and the No. 3 team of
Hannah Loewen (St. James, Minn./St. James HS) and
Madeline Samz (Savage, Minn. /Burnsville HS) all prevailed by that same 8-1 margin.
The tandem of Warren and Carpenter has won three straight matches.
Singles
Maier did not drop a game at the No. 1 spot, winning 6-0, 6-0 for her third straight win. Jankila cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot.
Maya Nibbe (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) also did not drop a game at the No. 3 position, winning 6-0, 6-0 for her first collegiate win.
Maria Valentini (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) came out top 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot.
Julia Ellefson (Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) prevailed 6-3, 7-5 at the No. 5 position and Samz took care of business at the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-1.
