DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team fought off a pesky Northland College squad in four sets Thursday night at the Reif Gymnasium.
How it Happened
The Saints used an early 5-0 run and led by as many as seven at one point in the opening set. However, the LumberJills (3-6, 3-3 UMAC) hung in and got within 23-22 before kills by
Haley Rohwer (Norwood Young America, Minn./Mayer Lutheran HS) and
Madissen Burns (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) gave the Saints a 25-22 opening set win.
Jessica Remer (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart HS) had eight kills in the opening set.
St. Scholastica recorded the first seven points of the second set and cruised to a 25-9 set two victory. CSS had a match-high .387 hitting percentage in the second set.
The third set featured 12 ties and four lead changes. Northland went on a 6-1 run to take a 19-16 lead. The Saints tied it at 21-21, but the LumberJills won four of the final five points to take the set and extend the match 25-22.
CSS jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the fourth set and used an 8-1 run later in the set to pull away and take the match 25-16.
Top Performers
Remer led the Saints with a career-high 24 kills. She also added 19 digs and four service aces. Rohwer had 11 kills and Burns added 10 kills.
Katie Brostrom (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had a career-high 54 assists and
Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) added a season-high 33 digs.

The Saints (6-1, 6-1 UMAC) will close out the regular season on Saturday with a critical Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) contest against the University of Minnesota Morris. Action is slated to begin at Noon in the Reif Gymnasium.
