DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team defeated the University of Minnesota Morris on Saturday in four sets, ending a 10-match losing streak to the Cougars and, in doing so, clinching the No. 2 seed for next week's Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament.

How it Happened
The Cougars (4-4, 4-3 UMAC) recorded the first three points of the match, but the Saints responded with six consecutive points. CSS never trailed from that point and used a four-point spurt later in the set to take the opening set 25-19. Jessica Remer (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart HS) had five kills in the set, while Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) recorded 10 digs. CSS also had five blocks in the set.

The second set was highly contested with 17 ties and 10 lead changes. St. Scholastica had a pair of four-point runs late in the set and led 24-21, giving them three set points. However, four straight kills by Morris made it 25-24 Cougars. CSS recorded the next two points to give its fourth set point. Morris responded with the next two points and after a kill by Madissen Burns (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) kept the Saints alive, Morris recorded two points to take the set 29-27.

CSS bounced back in the third set, jumping out to a 12-4 lead and built the margin to 11 before taking the set 25-14. The Saints had a match-best .225 hitting percentage in the third set with Ashley Larson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) recording four kills and Draper registering another 10-dig set.

The Cougars jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fourth set and led 17-14 before St. Scholastica scored the final 11 points of the set off the serve of Larson, who recorded four aces during that span to give the Saints the match 25-17. Larson had five service aces in the set.
