csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team suffered its first defeat of the spring season on Saturday to 24
th-ranked University of Northwestern (Minn.) in four sets.
How it Happened
The Eagles (19-2, 5-0 UMAC) had a strong hitting percentage in the first two sets, with a match-best .444 attack percentage in the opening set and a .304 percentage in the second set.
CSS never led in the first set as the Eagles pulled away in the middle portion of the set to win 25-14. The second set saw the Eagles record the first five points. However, the Saints battled back and tied the set on six different occasions with the last being at 19-19. Unfortunately, Northwestern scored four of the next five points and ultimately took the set 25-22.
St. Scholastica would not be swept as it controlled the third set with its best hitting percentage of the match at .268. CSS extended the match by winning the third set 25-18.
With the score tied at 7-7 in the fourth set, the Eagles used an 8-1 run to distance themselves from the Saints and take the match in four 25-16.
Top Performers
Jessica Remer (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart HS) led the Saints with 16 kills. She also added 10 digs for her third consecutive double-double.
Madissen Burns (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) added a season-high 12 kills and
Ashley Larson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) had 10 kills.
Katie Brostrom (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 38 assists and a career-high 20 digs for her first collegiate 20-20 match.
Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) had a season-high 31 digs.
