DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – Adrian College (Mich.) scored 24 seconds into Friday night's opener of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup Championship series en route to handing the St. Scholastica women's hockey team its first loss of the season by a final 3-0.
How it Happened
Adrian scored on its first shift of the game after coming away with the puck off the side boards and getting an open shot in the slot to make it 1-0 with only 24 seconds elapsed. The Bulldogs extended its lead to 2-0 with 7:33 remaining in the first period with another goal from the slot.
The second period saw the Saints get some great breakout chances against the Bulldogs, but could not get one past the goaltender as the score stood at 2-0 heading into the third period.
CSS had a lot of momentum heading into the second intermission, but that momentum came to halt when Adrian scored 4-on-4 just 41 seconds into the third period to make it 3-0. The Saints went the final 2:44 of the game with the empty net, but could not cut into the Adrian lead as the Bulldogs took the series opener 3-0.
Goaltending
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) made 33 saves for the Saints, while Denisa Jandova had 24 saves in the shutout for the Bulldogs
