DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – For the second consecutive day, the St. Scholastica women's hockey team fell behind by two goals in the first period, but battled back on Saturday with pair of goals, but still came up short as Adrian College (Mich.) captured the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup Championship by a 3-2 final.

How it Happened
The Bulldogs (20-0-1) scored off the faceoff at the midway point of the opening period to take a 1-0 lead. Adrian added a second goal in the final 20 seconds of the period on the power-play to make it 2-0 at the first intermission.

The Saints cut the deficit in half with 6:24 remaining in the second period with its first goal of the weekend on a Mariah Haedrich (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) goal off a re-direct to make it 1-0. Kendall Markovic (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) and Emily Sabol (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) had the assists.

However, the Bulldogs got that goal back with three minutes left in the second period to make it 3-1 at the second intermission.

The Saints responded 51 seconds into the third period with a Abby Pohlkamp (Baxter, Minn./Brainerd HS) goal to make it 3-2. Haedrich and Ali Ratzloff (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Lourdes HS) had the assists. CSS had a power-play in the final seven minutes of the period, but could not convert and then had a few great chances in the final two minutes with the net empty, but Adrian hung on to capture the title by a 3-2 margin.

Goaltending
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) made 36 saves for the Saints, while Denisa Jandova had 29 saves for the Bulldogs. Jandova was named the Slaats Tournament MVP.

CSS captains Taylor Murray (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) and Haedrich were named to the Slaats Cup All-Tournament Team. Adrian's Jandova, Jessica VonRuden, Reaghan Pietrowski and Kathryn Truban were also named to the team.
