DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team scored the final three goals on Saturday to defeat Concordia University Wisconsin 4-1 at Mars Lakeview Arena to advance in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) Slaats Cup playoffs.
How it Happened
The Saints didn't take long to get on the scoreboard as
Emily Sabol (New Prague, Minn./New Prague HS) poked the puck into the net less than three minutes into the contest.
Mariah Haedrich (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) and
Kennedy Halverson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) had the assists.
The Falcons (10-9-0) would break St. Scholastica's shutout streak at 206 minutes with a goal at 11:27 of the first period to tie the game at 1-1. It remained 1-1 after a period of play.
Five minutes into the second period, CSS took advantage of a too many skaters on the ice penalty as
Allie Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) scored for the second straight day to make it 2-1. Haedrich and
Courtney Bloemke (Nicollet, Minn./Mankato West HS) had the assists. With a little over five minutes left in the second period a Concordia turnover at the blue line led to a
Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) goal to extend the lead to 3-1.
Kayla Kasel (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) was credited with the assist.
The third period saw just one goal and it was by the Saints to put the series on ice as Bloemke put in her own rebound to make the final 4-1.
Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) had the assist on the goal.
Goaltending
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) made 21 saves to improve her mark to 11-0 on the year. Annalina Van Hercke had 28 saves for the Falcons.
