Volleyball Sweeps Martin Luther in Home Opener

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – In its first home match since 2019, the St. Scholastica volleyball team swept Martin Luther College in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action on Saturday at the Reif Gymnasium.
 
How it Happened
The Knights (2-3, 0-3 UMAC) scored the first point to open the match, but then Martin Luther errors gave the Saints the next four points. Later in the set, CSS recorded six consecutive points which included four straight kills by Jessica Remer (Grand Forks, N.D./Sacred Heart HS). Remer eventually closed the first set out with a kill to give the Saints a 25-18 win. Remer and Alana Mayry (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) each had five kills in the set.
 
St. Scholastica never trailed in the second set as Remer again registered five kills in the set as the Saints won 25-15.
 
The Saints also did not trail in the third set with a match-best .438 hitting percentage in the set. At one point, Ashley Larson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) recorded three consecutive aces. Mayry had back-to-back kills and a Martin Luther error gave the Saints the match 25-11.
 
Top Performers
Remer recorded five kills in each set to finish with a match-high 15 kills. She also added 14 digs for her first double-double of the season. Mayry added 10 kills and Madissen Burns (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) finished with eight kills. Katie Brostrom (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had 33 assists and 10 digs to also record a double-double. Alcia Draper (Williams, Minn./Lake of the Woods HS) finished with 18 digs. Larson had four service aces.
 
Up Next
The Saints (3-0, 3-0 UMAC) will be at home again on Thursday when they welcome bridge rival University of Wisconsin-Superior to the Reif Gymnasium. Action is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
