DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team was held to four points in the fourth quarter as the University of Wisconsin-Superior rallied to win 59-49 Monday night in the regular season finale at the Reif Gymnasium.

How It Happened
After the Yellowjackets (4-5) scored the first points of the game, the Saints went on a 10-0 run with Liz Frase (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS (Concordia-Moorhead)) contributing six of those points. CSS maintained the advantage the rest of the quarter and an Amelia Zmuda (Saint Anthony, Minn./Saint Anthony Village HS) jumper made it 16-9 after a period of play.

Zmuda then opened the second quarter with a 3-pointer to give CSS a 19-9 lead. However, UWS limited CSS to just one more made field goal over the next eight minutes, going on an 18-3 in the process to take a 27-22 lead. A Lizzie Altendorf (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) 3-pointer cut the halftime deficit to 27-25.

After the second quarter belonged the Yellowjackets, the third quarter belonged to the Saints. Another Altendorf 3-pointer spurred an 8-0 CSS run to give the Saints a 33-30 lead. Later in the quarter, seven consecutive St. Scholastica free throws made it a five-point CSS lead. An Emily Ross (Ortonville, Minn./Ortonville HS) 3-pointer pushed the lead to seven before the Saints ultimately led 45-39 heading into the fourth quarter.

The start of the fourth quarter saw UWS score the first eight points to take a 47-45 lead. A Frase jumper tied the contest back up, but Superior then scored 10 straight points to open up a 10-point lead. That 10-point margin would be the final with UWS coming out on top 59-49.
