csssaints.com) – After falling behind, the St. Scholastica women's hockey team scored three unanswered goals to defeat Saint Mary's University on Wednesday by a 3-1 final and improve to 3-0 on the season.
How it Happened
The first period saw two power-play opportunities for the Saints, but the contest remained scoreless at the first intermission. CSS outshot Saint Mary's 13-10 in the opening 20 minutes.
The Cardinals, who were playing their first game of the season, took the lead less than five minutes into the second period. Later in the period, after CSS killed a SMU power-play, the Saints tied it up at 1-1 on a
Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) goal with six minutes left.
Allie Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) was credited with the assist. It stayed 1-1 at the second intermission.
St. Scholastica earned a power-play seven minutes into the third period and took advantage with
Kayla Kasel (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) scoring her third goal in as many games to give CSS its first lead of the evening at 2-1. Anderson and
Taylor Murray (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) had the assists.
Goaltender
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) stopped four shots on a Saint Mary's power-play with seven minutes remaining and then the Saints put the game on ice with a Murray power-play goal with 2:15 remaining to make the final 3-1.
Lisa LaRoche (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) had the assist.
Goaltending
Huseby made 26 saves to improve to 3-0 on the year. The Cardinals split time in goal between Ary Ziakas, who had 17 saves in the first half of the game and Jordan Keeley, who had 20 saves in the second part of the contest.

The Saints (3-0) are now off until Friday, February 12 when they welcome first-year program Lawrence University (Wis.) for its first-ever game at Mars Lakeview Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
