DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team surrendered four goals in the first 13 minutes of action and fell to Saint John's University 5-2 Wednesday night in its home opener at Mars Lakeview Arena.
How it Happened
The Johnnies (1-1) were awarded a power-play in the opening minute of the game and took advantage with a goal two minutes in. Saint John's added another nine minutes into the game to extend the lead to 2-0. Just 20 seconds later, the Johnnies made it 3-0.
After Saint John's made it 4-0, CSS got on the board with a
Tyler Hinterser (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville HS (Brookings-NAHL)) unassisted goal to make it 4-1. In the final minute of the opening period,
Jon Hansen (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) also added his first of the season to make it 4-2 at the first intermission.
Michael Talbot (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS (Minot-NAHL)) added the assist.
The Johnnies added a power-play six minutes into the second period and that concluded the scoring for the game despite the Saints having five power-play opportunities the rest of the game.
Goaltending
In his first collegiate start,
Jack Bostedt (Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig HS (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) made 21 saves between the pipes for CSS. Also, in his first collegiate start, Michael Magnuson made 33 saves to earn the win for Saint John's
