Thompson Scores Twice in Women’s Hockey’s Sweep of Marian

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team remained undefeated after sweeping Marian University (Wis.) 6-1 Saturday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.
 
How it Happened
Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) scored her first of the evening, and of the season, nine minutes into the game with assists from Ali Ratzloff (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Lourdes HS) and Kayla Kasel (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS). Three minutes later, Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) scored her eighth of the season to extend the lead to 2-0. Kasel and Kennedy Halverson (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS) had the assists.
 
Marian cut the St. Scholastica lead in half early in the second period, but the Saints responded with a Lisa LaRoche (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS) power-play goal. Taylor Murray (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake HS) and Thompson were credited with the assists. CSS made it 4-1 less than two minutes later as Allie Bussey (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) recorded her team-leading ninth goal of the season. Lauryn Hull (Kimberly, Wis./Kimberly HS) and Murray had the assists.
 
The final goal of the second period came off the stick of Thompson for her second of the evening to make the score 5-1 at the second intermission. Lily Holtz (Austin, Minn./Austin HS) had the assist.
 
The last goal of the night came one minute into the third period with Halverson power-play tally to make the final 6-1.
 
Goaltending
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) made 15 saves for the win, while Kayla Kolpitcke had nine saves in the loss.
 
Up Next
It will be the same deal between the same two teams next weekend as the Saints (9-0-0, 6-0-0 NCHA) travel to face the Sabres (2-7-0, 2-4-0 NCHA) on Friday to start a home-and-home series to close out the regular season.
