DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team was outscored 48-25 in the second half as it fell to Bethany Lutheran College Saturday 71-61 on Senior Day at the Reif Gymnasium.

How It Happened
The Saints led for all of the first half as they used an 8-0 run in the first quarter to lead 20-11 after one period. Amelia Zmuda (Saint Anthony, Minn./Saint Anthony Village HS) had six points in the quarter and the CSS defense forced five Bethany turnovers.

Back-to-back jumpers by Liz Frase (Proctor, Minn./Proctor HS (Concordia-Moorhead)) in the second quarter gave CSS a 14-point lead. Both teams combined to make only two field goals in the final five minutes of the half and an Ashley Faur (Pine City, Minn./Pine City HS) layup at the end of the half gave the Saints a 36-23 halftime lead.

The Vikings came out of the gates strong to start the second half, scoring nine straight points. The Saints hung on to the lead until Abby Olson drained a 3-pointer with five minutes to go in the period to give Bethany its first lead of the day at 41-40. In the final 30 seconds of the third quarter, Frase connected on a 3-pointer to tie the game at 45-45, but two Bethany free throws gave the Vikings a 47-45 heading into the fourth.

Zmuda tied the game once again to start the fourth quarter, but Bethany scored 14 of the next 17 points to take control. Two straight field goals by Zmuda got the lead down to five in the final two minutes, but the Vikings made free throws late to win 71-61.
